My Approach
A user's experience is impacted by every choice and decision a designer makes, from color and font to the more challenging elements such as interactivity and journey.
See samples and thoughts below.
Table of Contents
Colors match client logo. Progress bars fill in as the user completes chapters.
Images in Color
Images were black and white - stark - to match difficult content. Images changed to color to parallel shift in learner's responsibility to affect change.
Graphic Design
Design remains clean to accentuate the content. Photo selection is key to emotional connection.
Contemplate
Bullets arrive one at a time to allow a thoughtful atmosphere. The selected image and the slowly flowing text match the content's request to contemplate.
What do you see?
What do you feel when you gaze into these eyes? A great image is powerful; take time to match content perfectly.
Where am I?
Many fun elements can be added with the purpose of organizing a learner's journey. As puzzle pieces are selected, the images below are revealed.
508-Compliance & Design
All of the samples you see on this page are 508-compliant. Every. Single. One.
I once overheard a conversation about designing for 508-compliance. One person was fired up about having to change their ways in order to be compliant. "Why should the majority be put out for the minority?"
I am here to tell you that statement is utter crap. In fact, I am a better designer today because I pushed myself and my trusty Lectora to do what they said could not be done. And by the way, I heard a statistic that 1 in 5 people has a disability of some form. We CAN do better for all learners.
Interactive Learning Board
As the learner selects the numbers, little Johnny moves through the board to reveal facts.
Interactive Experience
Learners answer a series of questions about their childhoods which culminate in a personalized "Frame of Reference".
Gamified Quiz
Learners read a paragraph and select phrases that indicate either risk or protective factors. Protective factors tip the scales in a positive direction - overcoming the risks.
